Drug busts in Amarillo, TX. don't seem to be surprising news these days. Anything from a small one to a large one are relatively commonplace these days. You could call it the Texas hub for trafficking.

In all the different drug busts that have happened in the past few years though, I can't think of any off the top of my head as big as the one we recently saw go down.

It all started on July 17 when the Amarillo Police Department obtained a state issued search warrant for the home located at 3603 Portland Ave. According to the official complaint, this address was the residence of Dekendrick Alexander, and an R.G., later identified as Rebecca Gunset.

Before police had the chance to execute the search warrant, Alexander and Gunset left the residence in her known vehicle, a 2022 silver Lincoln. With the search warrant in hand, police stopped the vehicle and detained the pair.

During the traffic stop, Gunset was found to be in possession of 7.4 gross grams of Valtox positive cocaine base. She would later admit she was hiding it on her person for Alexander during the stop. Alexander was also found to have an outstanding warrant out of Randall County for a misdemeanor charge.

Police then executed the search warrant at the resident which is where they found the equivalent of a lost pirate treasure. It started with a firearm being found along with 14 .40 caliber cartridges in the bedroom. That would be just the beginning.

Also found in the bedroom was more of the aforementioned cocaine base. 2,140 gross grams to be exact, which equates to a touch more than two kilos. Agents also found a partial kilo of cocaine in a drawer.

All in all, the total weight of the cocaine that was found in the residence was a stunning 3100.6 grams, which weighs just under 7 pounds. Agents also found 42.3 grams of crack cocaine.

Alexander ultimately cooperated with agents in an interview after being read his rights by describing the gun and essentially walking them to where all the drugs were. His reason for walking them to the evidence was that he didn't want the agents destroying his house trying to find the stuff.

Gunset is now facing a charge of "Manufacture/Delivery of Controlled Substance" while Alexander is staring at "Possession w/ intent to Deliver Cocaine" as well as "Felon in Possession of a Firearm".
