2017 Billboard Awards: Metallica Win ‘Top Rock Album,’ Guns N’ Roses Lose ‘Top Rock Tour’ to… Coldplay?
Well, even Guns N’ Roses’ historic reunion tour is no match for the monster that is Coldplay. GN’R lost out on the Top Rock Tour award at the 2017 Billboard Music Awards, but at least Metallica took home Top Rock Album.
There wasn’t much for us to cover with the Billboard Music Awards, unless you’re really into a half-naked Cher performing “Believe” live in 2017. But hey, who are we to poo poo nostalgia? The good news is Billboard actually had a couple of rock-based awards, one of which went to Metallica.
‘Tallica’s Hardwired… To Self-Destruct was awarded Top Rock Album, beating The Lumineers’ Cleopatra, Radiohead’s A Moon Shaped Pool, Red Hot Chili Peppers’ The Getaway and Twenty One Pilots’ Blurryface. Metallica were also nominated for Top Rock Artist, but lost to Twenty One Pilots.
The award for Top Rock Tour only had three nominees, with Coldplay somehow getting the nod over Guns N’ Roses and Bruce Springsteen. Guns N’ Roses were also nominated for Top Touring Artist, but lost to Beyonce. Strictly off the power of their touring, GN’R were up for Billboard’s Top Duo/Group award as well, but alas, Twenty One Pilots are just too damn good!
Guns N’ Roses still won in our hearts, gosh darn it! We don’t think Axl, Slash and Duff are too bent out of shape about the Billboard Awards, especially since their ‘Not in This Lifetime…’ tour just passed $230 million in ticket sales.
