Just in time for wildfire season, two firefighting planes have arrived in Amarillo to assist with the fight.

Last year was particularly bad for the Golden Spread.  Thousands of acres were burned that claimed lives, livestock, and property.  With the typical dry weather we’ve been having expecting to stretch into the summer it is expected this wildfire season could be even worse.  It is hope the heightened danger can be abated some with the utilization of the two new fire retardant delivering aircraft.

The planes aren’t expected to extinguish fires as much as they are to help those on the ground get closer to the flames, safer.  They will drop a retardant called LC-95 that is non-toxic to humans and includes fertilizer the help the land recover once the fire is gone.

The planes will be stationed here though fire season, which runs until April.
