Earlier this week the Amarillo City Council voted to increase property taxes.

According to the city, property values have risen to the point an increase is warranted.  The city needs the extra revenue to fund important projects and provide a raises for some city employees.

The increase is 8.33% and is expected to cost the average homeowner around $40 more per year.

It is expected the increase to generate over $3 million dollars.  Raises for police officers, firefighters and other city employees are planned.
