Anytime we talk about an event, there is a concern about bringing groups of people together due to the coronavirus. As much as everyone would like to be together for fellowship during the Amarillo Police Department's 9/11 memorial ceremony, this year's annual event will be closed to the public. However, the ceremony will be live streamed online so that anyone will be able to remember the day.

The event will take place at the Texas Panhandle War Memorial on Friday morning, September 11, at 8:45am. The ceremony will feature the Amarillo Police Department Honor Guard, the Amarillo Fire Department Honor Guard, representatives from both Randall and Potter County Sheriff offices, and various first responders from around the panhandle.

The ceremony will be shown on the City of Amarillo Facebook page, as well as the Amarillo Police Department and Amarillo Fire Department Facebook pages.

The Amarillo ceremony is not the only remembrance event that has been moved online this year. In New York City, the largest of the 9/11 events will be moved online and on live TV only this year, and will not be open to the public. Originally the large light display that is put up to show the "lighted twin towers" was going to be cancelled until a decision was made to reinstate the display while keeping the area limited to the public.
