When you are out delivering food in Amarillo, you never know what to expect. You can have an easy and smooth transaction. The food can be ready for you when you arrive at the restaurant. The drop-off location can be close and easy to find. Those are the best.

Then there are the ones you dread. The ones that are in a business with horrible parking, like downtown. There are those that you have to walk up flights of stairs. There are huge orders with cases of water. The ones that make you struggle a bit.

The Ups and Downs of Amarillo Deliveries

In the end, you hope that the customer takes everything into consideration and tips you accordingly. That is what we always hope is, that we are compensated for our time and usage of our car. We put on many miles and waste a lot of fuel. There is a lot that goes into a delivery in Amarillo.

What Dashers Really Think About Tips

There are customers who make sure that they tell you they will tip in cash when you deliver. You hope that they do. Then you get to the location and the instructions say, leave at the door. You pretty much know that a tip is not in your future. Very rarely do they then leave cash outside.

It is frustrating. Then there are the ones, the very few ones, that actually do like they say they will. Recently, I was on a delivery that gave me the hope that there would be a cash tip.

When a Promised Tip Becomes Reality

I made the delivery, not knowing what to expect. I didn't want to be negative about it. I tried not to be, but for the most part, the cash tips never happen after there is no tip through the app. I know that seems strange, but mainly the cash tips after delivery come from the customers who have already left a tip through the app.

I got to the drop-off location and walked the food up three flights of stairs at the apartment. I rang the doorbell because I was supposed to hand the food to the customer.

Why This One Delivery Meant So Much

They started to say through the speaker to just leave it at the door, and my hopes started to feel crushed, but that is not what happened. They stopped talking and came to the door. The nice lady, with a baby on her hip, handed me cash and apologized for not tipping through the app.

A win. A very nice customer who actually followed through with their promise of a cash tip. It finally happened, and I couldn't have been happier.
