Donald Trump, Future Leader of Free World, Insults Meryl Streep for Golden Globes Speech
Meryl Streep pushed for acceptance of outsiders, love of humankind and trust in the press at last night's (January 8) 2017 Golden Globe Awards. So, President-elect Donald Trump has naturally responded by insulting the heralded actress.
Though a handful of celebrities ribbed Trump at the Golden Globes, Trump took specific issue with Streep, who explained while accepting the show's lifetime achievement award that she's been in distress ever since she witnessed Trump mock a disabled reporter while on the 2016 campaign trail. Trump claimed he didn't mock the reporter (he...did), and decided that his childish rage gave him license to take a shot at Streep's pedigree on Twitter.
The future leader of the free world, ladies and gentlemen. Can't imagine why very little of Hollywood is willing to show up at his inauguration!
Streep's speech was a standout of the show, and drew boisterous applause and vehement support on Twitter.
"So Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners and if we kick ‘em all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and mixed martial arts, which are not the arts," she said. "Disrespect invites disrespect, violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others we all lose."
Many (many many) people — celebs among them — also took issue with Trump's labeling of Streep as "over-rated" and said as much on Twitter.
