Dasher Diary: The Hidden Struggles of Non-Food Delivery Drivers in Amarillo
When it comes to delivering orders through a service like DoorDash or Uber Eats, they really do need to do more for the drivers in Amarillo. There are some deliveries that they want you to help out with and deliver, but the services make it really tough to do that.
These delivery services impose numerous fees, most of which go to the company rather than the driver. Most drivers get a base pay of two dollars, and then whatever the tip would be. That tip is why we make the delivery.

There needs to be a way for the delivery service to collect a tip on each and every order in Amarillo. It's a service. My concern is for stores like Home Depot, PetSmart, Walgreens, and such. There should be a way for the customer to tip, but there is not always a way.
Calls for Improved Compensation Systems
I made a delivery recently from PetSmart, and the customer struggled to find a place to include a tip. She wanted to leave me one, but there was no option. Have the option in case the customer wants to leave one.
Do not make a delivery ineligible for a tip, like I recently saw from a delivery from Home Depot. Believe me, Home Depot is making their money, DoorDash is making their money, and it seems DoorDash through in a dollar to compensate, that is ridiculous.
Those ineligible deliveries are the biggest pain. They can be big items like bags of dog food, home improvement supplies, etc. They require you to give out personal information at pickup, like your driver's license info, so it should be eligible for more than a dollar.
Giving the customer an option to tip will make the customer happy and the driver a better chance at picking up your non-food delivery.
