July 4th is among us! It's a time to celebrate not only our independence, and moving on from the hot dumpster fire mess that is Covid-19. for the most part we made it. yep there's a hiccup or two with variants out there, for the most part tho we're on track for a great 4th of July weekend and all the drinking that sometimes comes with it.

With drinking comes driving, Amarillo Police are counting on us to hopefully not make this connection. The department has received a grant from the state to help step up enforcement of drinking and driving around the city. Officers will be out in full force looking for drivers who might have had a little too much.

DWI stats in Texas aren't great, Every 20 minutes there's a DWI related vehicle crash somewhere in the Lone Star state. Remember here a few months back when drunks couldn't stop hitting emergency vehicles? Some of the other numbers are down right scary on the wallet too as a DWI can knock you back $20,000 bucks. It's simply not worth it.

There are plenty of rideshares here in Amarillo, which if you do need to use be nice to the driver, tip well because they are gonna have a rough weekend as is. There's also Taxi Cabs or my personal favorite the Designated Driver. If you're in that much trouble hit me up! I'd be glad to make sure you get home okay. Or even your parents but you might have to do a little bit of explaining.

Amarillo On 'America's Most Wanted'

I was surprised to find out recently that we also have a bit of a history with the show America's Most Wanted.

Digging through old news articles, I found several separate occasions where Amarillo and America's Most Wanted crossed paths. It makes me wonder if there are some that I've missed.

The Eerie Abandoned Puckett Place Apartments of Amarillo

The Puckett Place apartments at 3447 Amherst St. have been a vacant and in disrepair for well over a decade. The building has finally been slated for renovation and at long last, Puckett Place will see a new life.

In the meantime, here's a glimpse at the strange and derelict beauty that is the abandoned Puckett Place.
