Say Goodbye (for Now) to Chick-fil-A on Georgia Street
Some news about Amarillo’s local restaurants hits harder than others. While this is only a temporary closure, it’s one that stings for many of us. I spotted a sign outside my favorite Chick-fil-A on Georgia Street and immediately started to worry.
Why Is Chick-fil-A Closing?
The location in question was the one on Georgia Street. This restaurant seems to always be a fan favorite in Amarillo. The sign outside said, "Eat Mor Chikin...after our remodel." That got me worried that this location was about to close down for a remodel. I quickly sent out an email to owner/operator Joshua Raef.
What to Expect From the Remodel
I needed to know the scoop. No sooner had I hit the send button on the email than I saw my answer. Joshua had just posted on social media:
My fears are about to be realized. My neighborhood is about to be without the Holy Grail of chicken. We are going to be without the closest Chick-fil-A, and it seems like this remodel is going to take some time.
I did talk to Joshua, and he did mention that they are targeting an October re-opening. He also said that they were hoping for earlier in October than later. This is a big project!
This also means I will be down one place that I am usually stopping at for DoorDash deliveries. I will be short one clean restroom to use while I am out delivering. I know that Joshua said this is going to make major improvements to the parking lot and drive thru and I believe him.
Of course, when my daughter asked what we were doing for dinner, I answered the only way I could. I suggested picking up from Chick-fil-A on Georgia Street, of course. If they are going to be closed for months, I had to get their great food and service one last time. Nobody argued.
What About the Employees?
While I was out delivering, my first stop was Chick-fil-A, and a customer came in asking about the employees. I overheard her being told that some of them will be transfering to other Chick-fil-A's while others will be collecting unemployment until they reopen.
Where Else Can You Get Chick-fil-A in Amarillo?
Every improvement they have made has been worth it. I think the Chick-fil-A on Georgia is the easiest one to navigate, so I can't wait to see what is changing. Luckily, in the meantime, there are other Chick-fil-A's in the city. We are not totally going cold turkey.
How Long Will It Stay Closed?
Hopefully, these weeks without the Chick-fil-A on Georgia Street will fly by. I can't wait to do what the sign says and eat mor chikin....after their remodel.
