2 Dead After Texas Mobile Home Collapses During DIY Home Project

A minor and an adult were killed and 5 others were hospitalized after a mobile home collapsed during a DIY home project in Angleton. The mobile home was in the process of being leveled by 7 family members working on it when it collapsed, trapping the family and killing a 17-year-old boy and a 31-year-old man who have yet to be identified.

Brazoria County Sheriff's Office reported, "They were trying to re-level a house and some of the cinder blocks broke and people are pinned under the beams. They are still going to be pinned underneath the house until we get fire department out here, the house is still laying on them."

Rescuers pulled five survivors out of the rubble and even used a chainsaw to rescue one person from the collapse. They were taken to the hospital and are said to be in stable condition. Two of the survivors, a 15-year-old girl, and a 16-year-old boy had to be taken by Life Flight. The 15-year-old boy is in critical condition and has already undergone several surgeries.

The sheriff's office also said that the area where the mobile home was located was often flooded by a nearby bayou, which is why they were working to raise the home. The accident was due to equipment failure during the project.

The 17-year-old killed was previously enrolled at Columbia-Brazoria ISD.
