Can you believe 2024 is almost over? Time is flying!

Listen up, Texas drivers, beginning in 2025, you will see a few changes to Texas vehicle inspection rules that may make your life less complicated. Here's what you need to know about the changes:

- You will no longer need a safety inspection before registering a vehicle unless it is a commercial vehicle.

- You will still be subject to a $7.50 inspection program replacement fee when registering a vehicle.

- New vehicles that have never been registered in Texas will be subject to a $16.75 fee that will cover them for two years.

- Registration costs will stay the same, but the fee isn't going away. The state is using revenue from the replacement fee to fund other programs.

- If your non-commercial car is in a county that requires emissions testing, you will still need to have it tested. The price varies between county and vehicle.

- Commercial vehicles, which are not exempt from vehicle safety inspections will be exempt from the replacement fee, but they will still be required to pay an inspection fee.

Alright, that pretty much sums it up. If you'd like to learn more about next year's vehicle inspections, click here.

Be safe on the road out there, and remember, just because you don't have to have a safety inspection doesn't mean you should let your car fall apart to the point of being unsafe. That's pretty much my only fear when doing away with the inspection. I hope everyone keeps their rides safe!
