News is just being released about a drug bust that recently took place at an Amarillo apartment. The bust got a number of drugs off the streets, including some 1,900 fentanyl pills.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

Methamphetamine, Methadone, Heroin, And Fentanyl In Recent Amarillo Drug Bust

According to the reports, the bust got the fentanyl pills, 2 ounces of methamphetamine, 114 grams of methadone, and an ounce of black tar heroin off the street. That's a sizeable bust.

Only one person was arrested in connection to the bust. They were booked on three counts of manufacture/delivery of a controlled substance.

It all happened at an apartment on the 3000 block of Curtis Drive.

Fentanyl Is Becoming A Growing Problem In Texas

The numbers are staggering when you first look at them. I checked the Department of State Health Services website to see what info they had.

According to the DSHS website, Texas deaths attributed to fentanyl in 2018 were 214. By 2021, that number had grown to 1,672.

That's a crazy increase over just three years.

In case you aren't aware of exactly what fentanyl is, other than a word you keep hearing, it's a synthetic opioid. It makes most others look like child's play.

The DSHS says it's 50 times more stronger than heroine, and 100 times stronger than morphine. They do say it's effective at treating pain, but it's very easy to overdose on. That, and the illegal variety is usually made with heroine or cocaine.

It just sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Kudos to the officers that got this stuff off the street.
