Amarillo’s Water Alert on Oct 1: Critical Facts You Shouldn’t Miss
If you live in Amarillo and find yourself without water on Oct 1, there's a good chance you live in North Heights. The City of Amarillo put out a "heads up" earlier today regarding an upcoming project in the North Heights neighborhood, and it could disrupt water service for some people. Here's what you need to know.
Upcoming Water Infrastructure Project To Impact Water Service In Amarillo
In the information shared by the City of Amarillo today, there's a water infrastructure project that's going to take place in the North Heights neighborhood and it kicks off on Oct 1. Crews are going to be replacing a two-inch water main. It will impact the odd-numbered houses between 1601 NW 17th Avenue through 1945 NW 17th Avenue. It will also impact the odd-numbered houses from 1601 NW Avenue 18th through 1945 NW 18th Avenue.
I know what you're wondering, and the answer is yes. This project is going to result in the temporary suspension of water service for some. If your service is going to be affected, the City says you'll be notified ahead of time and given an estimated duration for the disruption.
There's More Where That Came From...
This project is in addition to the $ 1 million for future water infrastructure projects in the North Heights neighborhood. I'm pretty sure that means there will be more water infrastructure projects in the future to keep an eye out for.
Hopefully, any disruptions won't last very long. The last time work was being done in my neighborhood, we were without service for a few hours and then it was back on. You will also need to be on the lookout for any impacts to traffic in alleys or on roadways while the work is going on.
If you have any concerns, like I did when my water wouldn't turn on, you can always contact the City of Amarillo's water utilities department and get answers to your questions.
