If you're planning on going on a road trip any time soon, you'll want to fill up your gas tank in Amarillo before you leave town. While we may complain about the price of gas from time to time, we're still one of the cheapest cities when it comes to gas in Texas.

Amarillo, Texas Gas Prices Remain Well Below State And National Average

According to AAA, the most recent average price of a gallon of gas in Amarillo is $2.637. That's below the national average of $3.120 and the state average of $2.729. Our price is up from a month ago when gas prices were $2.522. What's crazy is looking at a year ago. This time last year, the gas price in Amarillo was $2.487.

The cheapest gas in Amarillo is in Abilene at $2.601. Amarillo still has cheaper gas than Lubbock. They're paying $2.666. El Paso is paying the most at the pump with $2.903.

Why The Recent Jump In Gas Prices?

Looking for reasons behind the recent jump in prices, winter weather seems to be the main culprit. We've seen plenty of winter weather over the past couple of weeks, so blaming Old Man Winter checks out. When he has a temper tantrum it can cause problems with delivering fuel.

If you're trying to find reasons to be thankful you're in Texas today, gas prices would do the trick. The priciest gas in the nation is in Hawaii at around $4.54 per gallon. Texas ranks among the states with the cheapest gas prices in the nation.

So when you go to fill up, breathe a sigh of relief. It could be worse.
