Halloween is right around the corner. That means it's time to binge watch your favorite horror movies (I still highly recommend all Lone Star and horror loving Texans give The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs a try), buy copious amounts of candy to toss at toddlers, and visit haunted houses.

Here are five places in the Texas panhandle sure to terrorize, thrill, and entertain you this Halloween season.

6th Street Massacre - Amarillo, TX

6th Street Massacre is a staple of the Halloween season in Amarillo. It sits along historic Route 66. Every year they seem to find a way to top what was done previously.

Also, their social media presence is pretty solid. From funny to creepy, and sometimes just plain weird, they'll keep you entertained while you make your way down to 6th Street.

Added bonus: 6th Street Massacre is supposedly a haunted house that is actually haunted. There are more stories than you can shake a dismembered arm at of things that go bump in the night wandering around the building at night.

They've been featured in numerous investigations and on TV. Click here for their website.

Amarillo Scaregrounds - Amarillo, TX

Every haunted house, or attraction, we have in the area is unique. For some, they're actually haunted. Others lay claim to being the largest and longest running haunted attraction in the area.

That would be Amarillo Scaregrounds.

Scaregrounds features 5 attractions. They are:

  • Terror
  • Insanitarium
  • The Basement
  • B Trail
  • Xcape Room - Village

That's a lot of bang for your buck. Click here for their calendar and more details.

The Institute - Amarillo, TX

The Institute is a relative newcomer. While this isn't their first season of the year, it also isn't their first. They can be a bit tricky to find, which is why they have made sure you know exactly where to look on their website.

The directions are pretty detailed.

They're leaving a lot to the imagination when it comes to the theme. Even on their social media pages, things can be a bit cryptic at times. Clues are tossed out, but nothing spoils what will be waiting inside.

You can check out their website here.

The Haunt At Sundown

Here is the latest and greatest when it comes to thrills and chills on the plains. We recent wrote about The Haunt At Sundown. It's in a massive warehouse. It's been six years in the making. There's some kind of monster and a foggy swamp.

The rest you'll just have to discover when you go.

Details are few and far between when it comes to what you can expect. Which is fine. It's always better that way. You can check them out on Facebook here.

The Blackness Haunted House - Plainview, TX

The Blackness Haunted House has been going in Plainview for eleven years. They have four attractions, and they also have the honor of being a haunted house that's, well, haunted.

There have been several investigations over the years, and supposedly there's more than just people in costumes hanging around.

This year's attractions are:

  • The Blackness
  • Immortal Evil
  • Blacker Maze
  • Oddities

Judging from titles alone, they all sound like they're designed to get the blood pumping. You can check their calendar and get more info by following this link.

Yes, We Know This Isn't All...

However, these are just the ones we've found out about so far. If you or someone you know has a haunt this year, and you want them on the list, be sure to let us know so we can get them added.
