Thanksgiving is less than a week away. Most of us are finalizing our plans to spend time with friends and family over the holiday. That includes the City of Amarillo. The City recently released information on what offices and services will be closed over Thanksgiving, and, most importantly, when your trash will be picked up.

What Amarillo Offices And Services Will Be Closed For Thanksgiving

Almost everything City-related is going to be closed on Thanksgiving and Black Friday. If you need anything to take care of, it'll be best to get it done by Wednesday.

  • City Hall - Closed Thanksgiving and Nov 29
  • Public Library - Closed Thanksgiving and Nov 29
  • Municipal Court - Closed Thanksgiving and Nov 29
  • City Transit - Closed Thanksgiving; Running Saturday schedule Nov 29

The one thing on my mind every holiday in Amarillo, now that I have one of the fancy plastic carts to wheel out to the curb, is when they are planning on running trash routes.

What Is The Trash Pick Up Schedule In Amarillo For Thanksgiving

If you are like me and have to remember to wheel a plastic cart out to the curb twice a week for trash pick up, holidays can be a little tricky. They throw a kink in our regular routines. Here is the schedule for trash and solid waste pickup over Thanksgiving:

  • Residential Routes - Thursday routes will run on Wednesday. Friday routes run as normal.
  • Commercial Routes - Thursday routes run on Friday. Friday routes run as normal.
  • No curbside service on Thanksgiving. It will resume on Friday, Nov 29.
  • Brush sites closed on Wednesday and Thanksgiving.
  • Landfill closed on Thanksgiving. It will reopen on Friday.

In case you're wondering about the City golf courses, you will be able to hit the links while your family is in town or to escape your family while they're in town. The golf courses will be closed on Thanksgiving but will be operating under normal hours on Friday and through the weekend.

The good news in all of this is that there's less for us to think or worry about on Thanksgiving Day. The whole town will be pretty much at a standstill, so take the time to relax and enjoy yourself.
