One of the worst parts of the winter season is battling with the flu. In Texas, we're seeing a spike in cases across the state. If you haven't taken steps to protect yourself from the flu, you need to start now. Fortunately, there are several things you can do while flu cases are rising in Texas.

How Bad Is The Flu In Texas So Far In 2025?

The flu is running rampant across the Lone Star State in 2025. I know several people who have to fight it with the flu. It has me doing all I can to stay healthy.

Reports across the state paint a scary picture of how bad the flu is. In North Texas, schools were closed because so many students and faculty were out with the flu.

San Antonio is seeing a spike in flu and other respiratory viruses. RSV is another concern right now. It's bad no matter where you look. Austin has also seen an increase in cases.

How To Protect Yourself And Prevent The Flu

Fortunately, there are things you can do to put yourself in the best position possible to not have to deal with the flu that's going around this year. The CDC has a great guide and recommendations include:

  • Avoid close contact with those who are sick
  • Stay home if you are sick
  • Wash your hands
  • Clean surfaces that you come into contact with regularly
  • Get plenty of rest
  • Eat well
  • Stay hydrated
  • Be physically active

Of course, they do recommend getting your flu vaccine. There are a lot of places you can get one for free and it doesn't take much time. It's something to consider.

With reports of spikes in flu cases this year, it's important to take care of yourself. Hopefully, the number of cases will go down, and we can be out of "flu season" sooner rather than later.
