Get Ready For More Pain In The Asphalt; Change To Western Street.

You ever watch that show Lamb Chop's Play-A-Long? Remember how they'd end out each show? They sang, "The Song That Doesn't End." Remember? The news I'm about to share with you is going to feel a little bit like that.

Get ready for lane changes on Western Street as we enter the next phase of the project.

This Starts On Friday Feb 3 In Amarillo, TX

So what is going to happen tomorrow(2/3/23), or today depending on when you're reading this, is that your drive on Western is going to change a little bit. So, be on the lookout.

According to a press release from the City of Amarillo, the east side of Western will be closed from north of Ridgecrest Circle to Southwest 34th. Traffic is going to be moved over to the "newly constructed" pavement on the west side of...Western.

You Should Be Used To This By Now, But Here's What To Watch For

As we've seen in the past, you'll need to be on the lookout for lane changes and closures. Watch for signs. There may even be times, according to the press release, that you'll probably want to find another way to get where you need to go.

At this point, I have to wonder if most people traveling up and down Western are from out of town.

As has been the case previously, you need to be extra cautious in these areas. You'll always want to just go ahead and bet on there being delays.

This Phase Could Take A Little Bit

According from the press release from the City of Amarillo, the timetable for this phase of the project to be finished is sometime in June of this year. That, of course, hinges on Mother Nature deciding she wants to take it easy on us, and play ball for the next several months.

The most important thing is to drive slow in the work zones. Yes, it's frustrating. Yes, it makes me mad too when I forget that the construction is going on and now I have to get behind some tourist who has no idea what in the hell is going on.

But at the end of the day, we all just want to get home to those we love. Safe and sound. Slow it down. Drive cautiously. And, pray for the day it's all finally over.
