It's not often here in Amarillo that we find ourselves up for some awards. In fact, it's not very often we even get recognized in this giant state of ours. I mean, Texas is home to some MAJOR cities in Dallas, Houston, Austin, and San Antonio, so it's understandable that Amarillo feels like a blip on the radar.

However, we're getting a chance to shine right now, and it's pretty cool being in the mix of something that has a lot of eyes on it.

Why Amarillo Is In The Spotlight

Center City of Amarillo decided to enter a couple of our buildings downtown into a couple of categories in the Texas Downtown contest. The contest highlights a myriad of different things and has multiple categories for competition.

Well, the two buildings Center City of Amarillo entered into the contest were recently named finalists in the contest, putting eyes on downtown Amarillo for the whole state of Texas to see.

Which Buildings Are Nominated

The first building is the new Amarillo City Hall. As you may remember, the historic Amarillo Hardware Building was completely remodeled and renovated to become the new City Hall. Well, all that work has led it to being a finalist for the Best Restoration Award.

Our second building reaching the finalist stage is the recently constructed Potter County Justice Building. That one finds itself in the Best New Construction category, and with how many new buildings go up each year in Texas, this is a cool one.

When Are The Awards Handed Out

The Texas Downtown Association Conference will take place in Waco in November, and that is where they'll announce the winners in each category. You can actually help one of the buildings win a separate award.

Since both buildings were recognized as finalists, they're eligible to win the People's Choice Award. You can vote on that award simply by liking the picture of the building on the Texas Downtown Facebook page.
