Some cities will hang their hat on whatever they can to make it larger than life, and that couldn't be more true in Texas. I mean, they don't say "Everything is bigger in Texas" without a reason.

When you think about cities that hang their hat on being known for something particular or owning something, your brain goes to Shamrock, Texas as the official home of St. Patrick's Day. They own it, and they should with a town name like that.

Well last year, a city in Texas tried a new concept for Halloween, and it was such a rousing success that they're deciding they want to take it a step further.

Denton, Texas was recently named the 57th best place to live in the United States, and one of the highest grades they received was in the "good for families" category where they got an A-.

This is one of the reasons why.

Last year, Denton transformed their historic downtown district into a massive Halloween-town, and people came in from all over to experience it. In fact, they estimated over 660,000 people took part in visiting the city in the month of October.

They called it the 31 Days of Denton Halloween and people were already anticipating its return. Well Denton has decided to take it a step further than that.

State Rep. Richard Hayes is from Denton, and he loves the concept so much that he's filed a resolution with the state to turn Denton into the official Halloween Capital of Texas.

As it stands right now, the Texas House committee for Culture, Recreation and Tourism is reviewing the resolution but has yet to make a decision on it. If it is accepted and approved though, Denton will be able to call themselves the Halloween Capital of Texas for 10 years, ending in 2035.
