Hooters Abruptly Shuts Down Three Restaurants In Texas
Yesterday, Hooters suddenly closed over 30 stores across the country, including three here in Texas. It was sudden, but not necessarily unexpected.
Not too long ago, Hooters mentioned they were filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, like so many different businesses have done lately. So the closing of restaurants isn't entirely shocking.

Now the question is, will the Hooters location here in Amarillo be closed in the midst of the restructuring?
Which Texas Locations Were Shut Down
As mentioned above, three locations were shut down. The Grapevine location, the Houston location found at 120 Farm to Market 1960 Road W, and shockingly, the San Marcos location.
I mention the San Marcos location being a bit shocking to me. It's a college town, home of Texas State, and typically, these types of restaurants don't close in college towns.

Why Were These Locations Closed
It's important to note that when a company goes through something like this, it doesn't mean every single location is in danger of shutting its doors. The reason?
The stores that get shut down in a restructuring are corporate-owned stores. Ones that Hooters owns outright. Many of the franchises you see are independently owned by franchisees. Those particular restaurants are typically owned by someone local to the area, and thus, not lumped in or in danger of being closed by the company.
Is The Amarillo Hooters In Danger Of Being Closed
From what we can tell, the Amarillo location is one of the independently owned stores, so if it were to shut down, it wouldn't be because of the Chapter 11 filing by Hooters.
However, declining sales and slower traffic can always hurt a business, and that is something that is happening all over the country. I actually stopped into Hooters a week ago here, and it was the slowest I've ever seen a Hooters location...and this was at dinner time.
What Is The Ultimate Plan For Hooters
One of the things that was mentioned was that Hooters' corporate hopes to spin off some of the remaining corporate-owned stores to local franchisees in hopes of alleviating some of the debt.
As of the writing of this article, franchisees have already agreed to purchase over 100 Hooters corporate-owned locations.
