When a child vanishes or a youth runs away from home, it's always cause for alarm.

Rarely, if ever, is there an innocuous reason for a young person under the age of 18 to vanish. And that's why it's absolutely critical for these missing youths to be reported missing without delay, and fo the community to continuously keep watch for any familiar faces.

According to the Texas Center for the Missing, there were 47,670 missing persons reports in 2022 with 34,828 of those children.

The Categories of Missing Children Cases

If a missing person is under the age of 18, they will likely fall into one of the four categories:

  • Runaways (80-85%)
  • Family Abductions (10-15%)
  • Non-Family Abductions (3-4%)
  • Stranger Abductions (<1%)

It's important to remember that even the youth who runaway are still endangered. They are not of legal or emotional age to make adult decisions. They are by and large at high risk for exploitation and locating them is essential.
