High School Teams Take Over HODGETOWN for Special Cause
If in the five years you and I have known each other, you haven't learned how much I love baseball, I haven't done my job. Especially the Amarillo youth baseball scene. It's something that's been part of the fabric of me since I moved here, and I love it.
Anything related to youth baseball, I try to be a part of. Now, I've got a high schooler, and I'm finding myself paying more attention to how I can support that scene as well. Well, there's a tournament coming up next weekend that has been around a long time, and it's all for a good cause.
Randy Keller Memorial Baseball Tourney Returns
For the 20th year, the Randy Keller Memorial baseball tournament is returning, and it's going to be one of the best ones on record. This year's event will be held at HODGETOWN, giving these high schoolers a chance to play on the big stage.
The tournament will take place March 5-7, and will feature 18 different teams from across the Texas Panhandle. There will be three games played per day, and a ticket for the day will get you into all three games per day.
What Is The Tournament For
Back in 1992, Randy Keller, a baseball player for Tascosa High, was tragically killed in a car accident. The Randy Keller Foundation was created, a non-profit that helps to fund the Randy Keller Fighting Heart Baseball Scholarship.
Over $400,000 has been dedicated to the scholarship over 30+ years, and a scholarship is given to one player from the four Amarillo ISD schools each year based on nominations. This tournament is a part of that scholarship, and the funds raised go directly to it.
You can purchase tickets now for the event at the HODGETOWN box office. They're $6 per day for adults, $4 per day for kids.
