Route 66 Festival In Amarillo Returns With Big Accolades
It's one of the most historic and iconic stretches of road in America, and we have a very important piece of it right here in Amarillo. Yes, I'm talking about Route 66. There have been songs made specifically around it, and it's been used in countless movies.
The most popular movie has to be "Cars" where many of the buildings used in it were created based off the stretch on 6th Street right here in Amarillo. When you have something so iconic in your backyard, you celebrate it.
And that's exactly what Visit Amarillo has decided to do. Last year, the Texas Route 66 Festival was created, and it was a smashing success. Because of that, it's back for another year, and it promises to be even bigger and better.
A 10-day event that will run from June 6-15 will have everything imaginable, from a cattle drive, parade, classic car shows, live music, and exclusive bus tours that will take you along Route 66 and feed you all the info about it.
The festival was so popular last year that it made national headlines. It was named one of the 10 best new festivals in America by USA Today, checking in at number seven on the list.
It was the bus tours that I thought were amazing. You can Google everything you want, but you don't really get a feel for the history until you hop on one of the tours. There is so much info given and things you may, or may not, have known about.
All the info for daily events and happenings, plus tickets to the pre-kickoff concert can be found here.
