A recall has been put in place by several different companies for this popular spice.  People use this spice in just about everything, cakes, cookies, oatmeal, coffee, and other beverages.

American Spices is recalling two of its cinnamon products because they may have been contaminated with lead.  The products affected Spice Class brand Ground Cinnamon was distributed between 12/01/2023 and 05/15/2024.  It is the ground cinnamon packed in 7oz and 11oz packing PET jars, expiration is 12/2026.  No illnesses have been reported.  If you have questions or concerns you can contact American Spices at 1-917-532-6768

Advance Food International has recalled their Shahzada brand Cinnamon Powder.  It was distributed between 01/01/2024 and 05/24/2024.  The cinnamon was packed in 7oz plastic bags.  No illnesses have been reported. The FDA has also determined that the El Servidor Corp Canela Molida product also contains elevated lead levels.

A previous recall on cinnamon was issued on March 6, 2024.

Although small exposures to low levels of lead, may not bring on symptoms, you don't want to use these products any longer and are encouraged to throw them in the trash.  Long-term exposure to lead can affect every system in your body.  For children, it could cause permanent damage to the nervous system and lead to learning disorders developmental delays, and other long-term problems.
