DD’s Discounts Coming to Amarillo, Texas in Old Big Lots Space

Unfortunately, Amarillo, Texas, has seen a lot of businesses close. Many of these closures have been on the national level, while others have been on a local level.

One of those big, disappointing closures was Big Lots. At first, we thought Amarillo was spared, and both our Big Lots stores were staying open. Then we were told that we were losing the Grand store, and then came the announcement that all Big Lots stores were closing.

Big Lots was a great discount store that many people visited daily to save money on everyday products. They closed quickly.

These closures left big empty buildings on Grand and Bell St, just shells of the stores that once occupied the space. However, we've got some good news for one of those empty shells.

dd's DISCOUNTS is Opening in Amarillo, Texas

The empty Big Lots store is getting a reprieve, and dd's DISCOUNTS will be moving into the building, bringing back discount shopping on the east side of Amarillo.

What is dd's DISCOUNTS?

dd's is a store where you can find all types of merchandise like clothes, shoes, home decor, toys, and more. dd's DISCOUNTS is owned by Ross Stores, Inc. They are the parent company of Ross Dress For Less, which is also located in the Grand Plaza shopping center.

We reached out to dd's DISCOUNTS to find out a tentative opening date or any other details, but at the time of publishing, they had yet to offer a response. However, what we do know is that it has been filed with the licensing and regulations in Texas. The new store should be opening by early 2026, if not sooner.

We have heard other rumors that the building will be split and shared with a Five Below, but we cannot find any confirmation that this is the case. However, if you look at dd's DISCOUNTS in other cities, they take up a building as big as that Big Lots building.

Either way, it'll be a nice addition and a great place to shop in Amarillo.
