Did All The Bad Drivers In New Mexico & Texas Move To Arizona?

Hey New Mexico, the worst drivers are now in Arizona but you're tied with Texas for 2nd place.

New Mexico drivers have taken a lot of flack over the years about being bad drivers. They may now be on the verge of losing that title.

Sandwiched between Texas, where we drive oh, so perfectly ... (cough- clears throat-looks around nervously) ... and Arizona, New Mexico drivers have been the butt of so many "bad driver" jokes.

All joking aside, there is a grain of truth to this reputation.. New Mexico, however, may be getting a break from this bad rap soon. If Arizona keeps driving the way they do, the 505 may get to do the finger pointing.

A recent study by U.S. News and World Report studied the 50, largest American cities and ranked them in terms of most and least safe to drive in. Arizona was the ONLY state to to have more than one city crack the top 10l.

In fact, they did it THREE times. You can practically hear all the New Mexico drivers cracking beers and popping champagne corks as you read. Meanwhile, Texas drivers maintain that smug, "we told you so" stare.

Easy though Texas. As far as cities in the "bad" top 10 go, we're tied with NM. According to US News:

The report was based on several factors, including the number of deadly car crashes per city per capita, the number of people involved in the deadly crashes, the average fatality rate per 100 million miles traveled, the average number of DUI arrests, and the number of car thefts in recent years.

I wonder about that last one ... when was the last time you saw a car thief driving slowly and safely in ANY state? The Arizona cities that made up almost 1/3 of the top 10 were Tucson (#5), Phoenix (#6) and Mesa (#8).

As far as NM and Tx go,  Albuquerque came in at #2 and Dallas took #9. El Paso barely made the top 30, coming in at #29.
