Metallica ventured into some surprising musical territory during their appearance on Carpool Karaoke, and they're giving fans a sneak peek with a teaser clip from the upcoming episode.

As you can see in the video above, the band members were joined by comedian Billy Eichner for their visit, which found them wandering around Los Angeles while singing a Disney soundtrack number, one of Rihanna's biggest hits and — of course — revisiting pages from their own songbook.

"A few of you who watched the Grammys back in February may have noticed during one of the commercial breaks that we took a spin around the Los Angeles area with comedian and actor Billy Eichner," reads an update at the band's official site. "With James behind the wheel, we did a little backseat driving and singing and even made a pit stop for some grocery shopping! We know this has been on your radar for some time and are happy to report that our episode of Carpool Karoke will see the light of day next week on Tuesday, Aug.15, Apple Music."

As alluded to in that post, Metallica made headlines late last year when they were spotted in an L.A. grocery store with Eichner, leading deli counter employees through a performance of "Enter Sandman." Now we know why they were doing it — and you can catch a quick glimpse of that portion of the episode in the teaser too.

Conceived by Late Late Show host James Corden as a popular segment on that series, Carpool Karaoke premiered as a standalone spin-off on Apple Music Aug. 8, with plans to release a pair of episodes each week. Will Smith joined Corden for the debut; in addition to Metallica, future guests run the gamut from Michael Strahan to Shakira. Check out the show's Apple Music listing for further information and previews of other upcoming episodes.
