With where we live here in the Panhandle, there are a lot of different places we can get to by car. Easy day trips to be taken and enjoy, but there's one little issue.

It's not the easiest or smoothest drive to make. In fact, it can be a flat-out dangerous drive to make.

Right now, the path most traveled is US Highway 64 and 87. The issue with this route is that it can get very congested, and simply dangerous. It's not a path I'd like to put my family of five on, therefore it would hinder me from wanting to make trips to New Mexico.

It appears that issue is about to be resolved. Sure, it won't be quick but it'll be worth the wait.

There are plans in place to build a new interstate between Texas and New Mexico that will make traffic better...and safer.

This new highway will connect I-27 with I-25 in Raton, NM. and make travel MUCH smoother to the area.

The US Ports-To-Plains is a joint effort with Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and Oklahoma all involved. The premise of the project is to secure funds on a federal level to improve roadways and develop new ones making travel easier.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation says it'll bring in more revenue to the state and also create a whopping 34,000 jobs in the area.

A huge part of the project is that it'll alleviate so much traffic coming through those small towns, freeing those towns up from the constant traffic and also make things safer in those towns by keeping accidents down to a minimum.
