Nike Apologizes For Naming New Sneaker The “Black & Tan”
Nike is feeling some backlash from European groups over the unofficial name of their new St. Patrick's Day themed sneakers. They are referred to as the "Black & Tans".
Nike has stated that they are calling them this in honor of the 'Black & Tan' drink, which is made by mixing stout and lager in the same glass. The two separate because of density and has a half black and half tan appearance.
The drink actually got its name from the Royal Irish Constabulary Reserve Force who were responsible for attacks on civilian Irish during the "War Of Independence".
One advertisement for the shoe, which sells for $90, says: "Tis the season for Irish beer and why not celebrate with Nike. The Black and Tan sneaker takes inspiration for the fine balancing act of a Stout (Guinness) on top a Pale Ale (Harp) in a pint glass."
