Local Halloween Event Helps Kids Stay Warm This Winter

Amarillo is a great place to live. As a whole we are a very giving community and we jump to the chance to help. It doesn't matter what the cause is there is always someone willing to help.

Amarillo’s Spirit of Giving Shines

It could be something as simple as helping a failing business when they ask for help. We don't want to see someone lose their livelihood. We also rally around bigger causes. We have tons of walks, events, and fun to support non-profits. Again, we love to help out.

Shi Lee’s Commitment to the Community

Then there are certain businesses that we just know are all over throughout the year helping with great causes. One of those businesses is Shi Lee's Barbecue & Soul Food Cafe, 1213 SW 3rd. Tremaine Brown with Shi Lee's is big in doing whatever he can to help kids in this community.

Trunk or Treat With a Purpose

They host events all year from Back to School, Easter events, and even at Halloween time. They have hosted a trunk or treat for years. The twist with their trunk or treat is that they get to help keep kids in Amarillo warm.

About five years ago they changed it all up according to a recent post from Tremaine:

For ten years we've been hosting a community Trunk or Treat and five years ago the Vessel of Humanity and Compassion thought that it would be a great idea to hand out brand new winter coats to all the kids that attend. Thousands upon thousands of kids have received coats over the years. We are doing it again! Mark your calendars! October 25th at Bones Hooks Park at 3pm.

How You Can Help Make a Difference

How can you help? They are still looking for donations for these kids.

We are now accepting donations of any new winter gear. That includes winter coats, hats, gloves, hoodies, and Halloween candy. All month long we'll be accepting donations at Shi Lee's BBQ and Soul Food.

If you want to help with this cause now is the time to step up. If you know a family that could benefit from having winter gear then make sure they head out to the upcoming Halloween Trunk or Treat. The kids can leave with a bag full of candy and know they will be warm all winter long.
