Chance are you've at least heard of Bitcoin. The crazy part, is that there are actually ATMs in the area where you can purchase the infamous cryptocurrency, and others too.

What Is Bitcoin?

Here is the extremely dumbed down version. It's a digital currency that, through a series of checks and balances, is designed so that it can't be easily manipulated.

The inspiration for the creation of Bitcoin was the '08 financial crisis. As details surrounding the crash came out in the news, Bitcoin was created as an answer to the corruption that exists when it comes to our money.

This all, of course, doesn't mean that Bitcoin hasn't been without its own problems. There's been plenty of controversy.

Should You Get Bitcoin?

I'm not a financial advisor, and none of this is financial advice. I personally don't own any Bitcoin, and I'm not heavily invested in any cryptocurrency. I personally think this is all still in its infancy and the groundwork is being laid for the future.

Also, there are a lot of scams out there when it comes to cryptocurrency.

Which is why I do highly recommend getting a financial advisor and talking with them about it. They'll be able to sit down with you and go over the risks, of which there are many. Crypto is insanely volatile.

The Craziest Part Is That Amarillo Actually Has A Lot Of Bitcoin ATMs

The first one I ever saw was inside of a Toot'n Totum on Coulter. I couldn't believe it. Near the spinning rack of name-plate key-chains was what looked like an ATM. Except at this ATM, you can purchase crypto.

The one I saw isn't the only one. There are a lot in town. Check out this map...

I have my own personal reservations when it comes to walking up to a machine and purchasing crypto for the first time.

I find it funny, though, that you can purchase a lotto ticket and then turn around and purchase a little cryptocurrency. It's funny, because a lot of people think buying into crypto is pretty much playing the lotto, if you're hoping to get rich off of it.
