Tool Release First New Song in 13 Years ‘Fear Inoculum’
It's finally here! Earlier this week, Tool announced that they'd be releasing the title track to their long-awaited new album, Fear Inoculum and now you can hear their first new studio track in 13 years at the bottom of the page.
“Fear Inoculum” is a 10-minute trip centered around Middle-Eastern drum patterns and a beautiful vocal performance from Maynard James Keenan. The track is a classic slow burn from Tool, building to big, cathartic crescendos. The song seems to address a rejection of fear and negativity from outside sources, despite it being injected into one’s veins.
A limited edition deluxe CD version of the album will feature a four-inch HD rechargeable screen with exclusive video footage, charging cable, two watt speaker, a 36-page booklet and a digital download card.
The full-length record will revolve around the number seven, which was incidentally a recurring number throughout the lengthy writing process. The songs "Descending" and "Invincible" have been performed live by Tool, but the studio versions have not yet been released.
"I took a picture pointing to the number seven while we were recording, and a lot of the riffs Justin [Chancellor] and I brought in were in seven," guitarist Adam Jones told Guitar World. "You don't really go, 'I'm going to write a riff in seven!'...Without being too descriptive about the concept, the main thing is that the seven beat just kept coming up, and riffs in seven kept coming up. It was really weird!"
Fear Inoculum will arrive on Aug. 30, bringing 85 minutes of new music through seven songs in addition to two transitionary tracks. Pre-order the record here. Check out Tool's tour dates here.
