Amarillo’s Wildest Landmarks: From Cars to Dinosaurs
Amarillo is an interesting city. You get a little bit of everything here. It's not a huge place like Dallas. We are grateful for that, but we still have stuff to do. It's still plenty big that it feels like you know everyone in this town until you really take a look around.
Yes, you may run into a lot of people you know, but you aren't even close to knowing everyone. It's the best little big town. Amarillo has a lot of quirky things that out-of-towners often wonder what's going on.
What Makes Amarillo So Uniquely Quirky?
If you drive around Amarillo, you will notice weird things about our city that others don't have. Those things are what make Amarillo special.
Cadillac Ranch vs. Slug Bug Ranch
- Ranches - We famously have the Cadillac Ranch, and many people travel all over to see those Cadillacs buried in the ground. Now we even have slug bugs buried in the ground at the other side of town. Amarillo is the only city with both.
The Mystery Behind the Giant Revolver
- Revolver - It just makes sense to have a big revolver that you can drive by. I know I have driven by it several times and always think nothing is more "Texas" or "Amarillo" than a big black revolver at Cliffside Events Center.
What's With All of the Signs?
- Signs - Every city has signs, but no other city than Amarillo have those diamond-shaped signs with weird sayings. You will find them in neighborhoods, on main streets. You just never seem to know where they will be. I know that every time I spot one, I try to get a photo. Only in Amarillo.
Amarillo's Weirdest Yard Decor
- Bathtub or toilets in front yard - Yes, this just screams decor for the city of Amarillo. I mean if you have something, use it. Recycling is cool, so if you have a tub taking up space, why not throw some dirt in it and make it beautiful with all of the great flowers you can grow here?
Explore River Road's Dinosaur Jungle
- Strange dinosaurs and other stuff in River Road - If you have been out driving around in the River Road area, you might notice the weird stuff in one neighboring yard. There is a dinosaur, because why not? You can spot Big Foot and live to tell about it, oh, and get photos. I mean only in Amarillo.
