If your plan was to get a jump start on Black Friday shopping and hit the stores on Thanksgiving night, you are going to find some popular Amarillo shopping spots with locked doors. The trend the last few years was for businesses to open later in the day on Thanksgiving and kick off their big Black Friday sales. However, it looks like many employees will be getting a chance to enjoy their entire Thanksgiving day off this year.

According to a study done by Google and published at BestBlackFriday.com, 72% of people say stores should be closed on Thanksgiving. Only 14% said they believe stores should be open and that they plan on shopping. The other 14% said that while they think stores should be open, they will not be shopping.

Here is a growing list of the places that will not be open on Thanksgiving for Black Friday shopping deals:

  • Academy Sports and Outdoors
  • Ace Hardware
  • Burlington Coat Factory (open for Black Friday at 7 a.m.)
  • Guitar Center – (open for Black Friday at 7 a.m.)
  • Hobby Lobby – (open for Black Friday at 8 a.m.)
  • La-Z-Boy - (open regular hours on Black Friday)
  • Lowe’s – (open for Black Friday at 6 a.m.)
  • Marshalls – (open for Black Friday at 7 a.m.)
  • Office Depot / OfficeMax (open for Black Friday at 8 a.m.)
  • Petco – (open for Black Friday at 8 a.m.)
  • Petsmart
  • Sam’s Club
  • Stein Mart
  • T.J.Maxx – (open for Black Friday at 7 a.m.)

On BestBlackFriday.com, they are predicting the following stores will be closed on Thanksgiving, but have not received confirmation yet:

  • Cost Plus World Market
  • Dillard’s
  • Home Depot
  • Pier 1
  • Sprint
  • T-Mobile
  • AT&T

On the flip side, here are some of the bigger retailers that are predicted to open up on Thanksgiving for early Black Friday sales:

  • Best Buy
  • Big Lots
  • Gamestop
  • JCPenny
  • Kohl’s
  • Old Navy
  • Target
  • Walmart
