Amarillo Locals Pick Their 11 Favorite Mexican Restaurants
If you grew up and live in the Texas Panhandle, one of the cuisines you learn to love is Mexican food.
I know I could eat Mexican food every day and be happy. I grew up in Hereford and was raised on food from Mrs. Abalos'. They had the best carne guisada in the world, and their hot sauce was the stuff dreams are made of. That is where my Mexican food obsession started. There is only one other place that has come close to matching their carne guisada recipe, and that is La Frontera. I have my favorite Mexican food restaurants in town to frequent, but we wanted to know where to find everyone's favorites in Amarillo.
How Locals Ranked Amarillo's Mexican Restaurants
So I spent a few hours scouring social media sites, searching through the opinions of people in Amarillo, and came up with the top 11 Mexican food restaurants in Amarillo according to you.

What Is Your Go-To Mexican Food Order?
When it comes to Mexican food, what is your go-to dish? Mine is always carne guisada, but it has to be cooked a certain way, and if it is in a red sauce, nope, pass. I also enjoy a good sour cream chicken enchilada, chile relleno, and pozole. A good street taco also warms my heart (shout-out to Canelos Taqueria food truck). The hot sauce has to be on point as well. It has to have flavor and a little spice, but not so hot that it burns your taste buds off.
I'm also a fan of queso, but I haven't found any that compare to Leal's Hatch Queso. I miss that restaurant so much.
I don't know about you, but I'm ready to go eat some Mexican food.
