Sometimes, when you look back at certain things you did or thought when you were a kid, you might say, "Man, I was dumb." I was driving the other day outside the city and came across a "Do Not Pass" sign, and I just started laughing.
My husband said, "What is wrong with you? What are you laughing at?" I had to stop for a second and wonder if I really should share why I was laughing. But he's my hubby, and he's stuck with me for better or worse. I told him I was laughing at the "Do Not Pass" sign we just passed. Of course he asked why.
The Childhood Theory Behind My Do Not Pass Laugh

The reason is that when I was a kid, before I was old enough to drive and go through driver's ed, I always thought the "Do Not Pass" sign meant you could not go on that land. The landowner didn't want you on their property. Then further down the road, you would see a "Pass With Care" sign, and I thought, oh, this must be a new landowner, and they don't mind people on their land. They were the nice property owners.

Do Not Pass vs. No Trespassing
It never crossed my mind that "No Trespassing" signs are used for that, not the "Do Not Pass" and "Pass With Care" signs.
Imagine my surprise when I was in driver's ed and saw those signs in my study guide. Talk about feeling dumb.
