Is This The Year We See Matthew McConaughey Run For Office?
It's political season in Texas, and all over the country really. With that majority of eyes solely focused on the Presidential race, especially now with President Biden withdrawing from the race, we have to remember there are other races to be run at the state levels.
Sometimes those issues and candidates get overlooked because all the noise we tend to hear is coming from the Presidential candidates. While that's an extremely important decision we have to make, we also have to remember that the state issues and candidates are extremely important to us as well.
In Texas, there is always one person everyone seems to have eyes on, and this person doesn't seem to hide the fact that they're thinking about running for office in some capacity. However, he doesn't seem to fully commit to it and has subsequently never run for office.
I do wonder though, how would Texas vote if he were to throw his name on the ballot? He's already famously popular and well known, especially inside the state of Texas. He's at basically every Texas Longhorns football game and you see him roaming around Austin often.
Yes, if you haven't guessed already, I'm talking about Matthew McConaughey. For roughly six years now, he's mulled running for office in some capacity for Texas. Back in 2021, he seriously considered running against Gov. Greg Abbott before deciding against it.
So what is holding back McConaughey from taking a stab at it? Is it movie commitments? Maybe some commercials he has to film? It's actually none of these things.
According to the Associated Press, McConaughey was having a conversation at the National Governors Association meeting in Salt Lake City last week, and he told New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, "I'm on a learning tour and have been for probably the last six years."
McConaughey continued on saying he asks himself the questions, "Do I have the instincts and intellect that it would be a good fit for me and I would be a good (fit) for it. You know, would I be useful?"
So it sounds like he's actually taking his time and doing his due diligence, unlike some candidates who think to themselves, "hey, this looks like fun. Let's run." Then they somehow manage to end up winning and not having a clue as to what they need to be doing.
So let's keep hearing McConaughey's name pop up in these conversations, because when he does finally decide to run, we'll know he's doing it for the right reasons, and he has given it ample thought.
