We have had a pretty quiet year when it came to closed restaurants in Amarillo. There were a few at the beginning of the year. It seemed like things had slowed down—until they didn’t. It seems like every time we turn around, there is another one.

A Quiet Year… Until Now

Apparently we just turned around again. I received a message on social media from a friend of mine letting me know about one she had just discovered.

How Locals Discovered the Closure

We drove up to McAlister's on I-40 today and the sign on the door said it’s permanently closed. - Jelaine

That was one location I would stop by every once in a while to pick up from when I was out delivering food. I had not had a delivery from them in a while. I didn't think anything of it until I received that message.

I decided to drive by to see what the sign on the door said. Apparently it has been closed for almost a week. The good news is that there is a second location in Amarillo. The bad news is that is another location near Tascosa High School that has closed down.

What This Means for Tascosa Students

School is getting ready to start back up, and that puts them at a restaurant down. There are still plenty of other choices, but McAlister's was an order at the counter and get your food fast options. That does hurt the students looking for a quick meal.

Still One McAlister’s Left in Town

For the fans of McAlister's, like my friend Jelaine, who said this was a weekly stop for her for a meal. This now means they have to travel to the other location at 8605 SW 34th.

At least losing a location seems to sting just a little less when there is still another one to visit. You may have to go out of your way, but at least this is Amarillo, and it's not a whole lot out of your way.
