Taking a drive around Amarillo can be a very nostalgic thing. Yes, we have a lot of stuff opening and helping the city to grow. There will still be those of us who will take that trip down memory lane.

We will point to a business and say "Remember when this was a (insert closed business here)? We like to reminisce about all the things that have come and gone during our day.

Yes, we embrace the new places but we also long for the simplicity of the things we used to enjoy. The things we can no longer find here in Amarillo. One of those trips takes us back to Western Sizzlin.

Do you remember eating there growing up? It was located at I40 and Paramount and the one thing everyone mentions is their dinner rolls. I don't know what it was about those in particular but man they were good. From everything I have read on posts, they did come from Snowhite Bakery back in the day.

Your family walks into Western Sizzlin and you know you were not leaving hungry. They had some great food even if you didn't fill up on just their rolls. According to their website:

The Western Sizzlin brand concept is based on great steaks. They’re seasoned with our unique Gold Dust and cooked using our famous Flamekist process for a one of a kind juiciness and flavor that keeps folks coming back for more than 50 years. We also serve up chicken, seafood, and buffets of garden goodness to satisfy any appetite in the family. Couple this high quality with an outstanding price and you have what has made us a success. We are the price value leader.

The buffet, the endless food, the service. Western Sizzlin was the place the family went for great value. That buffet, the salad bar. We do miss it. I wouldn't be too surprised if those dinner rolls show up a time or two in your dreams.
