Pickleball For Kids? Amarillo College Serving It Up.
Somewhere over the last few years, a sport that has been around for quite some time found new popularity.
People started grabbing paddles and playing a little game called pickleball.
The sport hasn't exactly seen a downturn in popularity, in fact, it's only grown. So much so that kids are now starting to get involved.
If you don't know what pickleball is, allow me to give you a brief description.
It's essentially a combination of several different racket sports. Tennis, badminton, and table tennis all come into play in the sport. It uses a tennis-type net, a badminton-sized court, a paddle similar to the one used in table tennis and the ball is essentially a whiffle ball.
The only team that can score points is the team that is serving at the time, so the concept is to hold serve in order to gain your points.
Seems kind of fun right? It's not the easiest game in the world to play. I tried it once and failed miserably.
Now, kids that want to jump into the burgeoning world of pickleball can right here in Amarillo!
Amarillo College is now offering up courses on the game for kids aged 4-16. Rules and different techniques will all be taught at the courses, as well as the opportunity to hop in a pickleball tournament on June 26th.
The courses will take place at Memorial Park, and they start at just $45 to get in! Courses will be available from July 12-21 as well as August 2-11.
