One Amarillo Restaurant Received A Failing Grade After Inspection
It's funny how it's not something we think about when we grab food somewhere in Amarillo, but then the report comes out and we're all sorts of interested in what it has to say. Sometimes we find that the restaurants we love so much have issues, while a lot of the time, we find out they're just fine.
I'm talking about the lovely health inspection scores on places that serve up your food. These restaurants get inspections done on pretty much everything. I saw one of the places lost a point because there was no lid on the trash can in the women's restroom. They leave no stone unturned.

So it's not ALWAYS something to do with the food they serve or anything like that. That's important to keep in mind when you see the scores. However, there are plenty of places where the score is because of the food or the conditions around the food.
So before we jump into the restaurants that scored a C or F, let's go over the scoring system. An establishment will receive a grade just like in school. It'll be either an A, B, C, or F. Remember, a D is no longer a grade.
The scoring system goes like this. 100 points mean no major violations, 85 points is considered average, and 70 points or below require another inspection within 24 hours. You'll also see COS on some reports, and that stands for corrected on-site during the inspection.
The latest restaurant inspection report has a TON of places, so we aren't going to list them all here. Our focus will be on the places that received either a C or an F.
EDDIE'S NAPOLI'S ITALIAN RESTAURANT
Found at 700 S. Taylor St., there weren't a TON of egregious things found, but enough stuff to warrant a C grade and score of 79. The biggest violation found was a large container of pizza sauce that had been made the previous day was found sitting out at an improper temperature.
Another food issue found was that temperature/time controlled for safety food was found in a make table sitting at an improper temperature. Later in the report, we'd find that the make table in general wasn't holding foods at proper temps.
They also found some dead insects behind the mop sink and other areas, but the other spots weren't specified.
STARS DRIVE IN
The popular fast food joint located at 2216 S.E. 27th Ave., had a few violations that I know we'd all appreciate being fixed. One of them was their chili being at an improper temperature. There was also no thermometer inside the fridge, so no way to tell if those items were stored at a proper temperature.
They observed multiple employees not wash their hands after using the facilities, and also observed the hand sink being blocked. That might have just had something to do with why the employees didn't wash their hands.
There were many flies observed inside the restaurant, and the walk-in cooler racks were found heavily soiled and dirty.
CHIYOS II
Located at 4313 Teckla Blvd., Chiyos II received the worst grade out of all the restaurants. It was the ONLY one to receive an F for a grade. Their overall score was 69, which required another inspection within 24 hours of the initial inspection.
Now, we could be here awhile listing all the different things they found an issue with, so I'm not going to hit on ALL of them here, but I'll try to focus on the ones that would appear to be the bigger issues.
There were egg rolls, fried beef, and fried chicken found in a cooler at an improper temperature. Live roaches were found in a container of uncooked rice, while raw beef, raw fish, and ready-to-eat imitation crab were all found thawing together in the same container in a reach-in cooler. There were also cockroaches around the kitchen, which was a repeat offense.
