Earlier this year, news articles proclaimed that 2021 would be awful for those of us who suffer from allergies. They weren't wrong. Here are some useful ways to get some relief from your vicious allergies.

My youngest son and I both are suffering from the changing of the seasons. Runny noses and that nagging cough are making us miserable. Here's what I found that can help without going to the doctor's office.

Do Your Laundry, and Shower

Something easy to do, that you hopefully are doing already, is a simple load of laundry. The things causing you to suffer can build up on your clothes. Use hot soapy water to get them clean and free of the culprits. Showering is also a good practice. It does the same thing for your skin that doing laundry does for your clothes.

I'm a guy, which means I don't do laundry every single day. I have that pile of clothes in a corner that needs some attention. Knocking that out might help me get rid of these sniffles.

Change Your Air Filter

This one is tough simply because it's not something you do often enough that it just becomes a habit. It's like changing the 9 volt battery in your smoke detector. You should probably be doing it more often than you actually are.

Changing out the air filter for your AC can go a long way toward helping you get relief .

Eat Some Local Honey

Bees make honey using pollen. That's basic science. Local bees make local honey from local pollen. See where we're going?

Eating locally made honey can actually help you get relief from those problematic allergens that are giving you grief. I thought this was an "old wives tale," but the experts all agree this is a great way to get the job done.

Luckily for us we have access to locally made honey, and the people responsible have a nice store and restaurant to go with it. Creek House Honey Farm in Canyon is worth the trip for their menu alone. Not to mention the honey.

Drink Some Tea

Ginko, milk thistle, red clover, and several other teas are actually pretty good at helping get you some relief from those scratchy throats and stuffy noses. Get a hot cup of water, dip the bag in, and relax.
