It should have been a pretty busy morning for me juggling my schedule and setting aside an hour to listen to little kids sing inspiring songs and talk about what they want to be when they grow up. I should have wore a tie, and there should have been caps and gowns.

Instead, it took about 15 minutes for my family to wait in a line of cars to pick up my kid's cap, leftover school supplies, and kindergarten diploma. As I drove away, I was a little bummed out.

My boy didn't seem to care about much at all, other than the fact that the tassel came off his cap.

No songs the kids had been rehearsing for weeks. No taking pictures with family. No crowded hallways.

We pulled up. Got our stuff. We left.

It made me take a second to reflect on just how much the pandemic has changed things. My days have become pretty routine, and don't deviate from that routine much. I hadn't taken much time to really think about how far reaching the changes to "normal" have been.

A big thank you to the school for doing this. For doing anything at all really. It would have been very easy to do nothing and just mail out certificates.

I'm thankful that my family had something to celebrate right now, even if it was a smaller celebration.

It also made me glad that there are efforts to make sure that other milestone moments are celebrated someway. Whether it's remotely, or by postponing ceremonies, we still need to find a way to celebrate everything we can.
