When summer vacation finally gets here in Amarillo, there are a lot of people who are excited. The long days of studying and homework are behind them for a couple of months. Just the feeling of relief sets in because it should be a carefree summer.

The Summer Meal Gap: Why This Program Matters

The only worry should be fun, summer plans, and sunscreen to keep you from burning. The worry should not be about where your next meal is coming from. There are a lot of families that count on the meals that are provided at school.

Those two school meals help a lot of families stay afloat, especially now that the price of just about everything is climbing. Feeding a family is not as easy as it might once have seemed. So that is why it's a relief to hear that the Amarillo ISD Summer Feeding Program is about to kick off.

Please spread the word! The AISD Summer Feeding Program will begin June 1st through June 26th.

Program Eligibility: Who Can Participate

The good news is these are free meals provided to children and teens ages 18 and under. They also have food available for enrolled students with disabilities up to age 21.

Just head over to one of the schools participating and make sure you grab meals each day. This is one worry that no family should have to face. The good thing is that the Amarillo Independent School District is making sure families are taken care of this summer.
