We love our football here in the Texas Panhandle. We support our kids from the beginning, watching them play Kids Inc. ball. They go on to play through school. You imagine watching them play under those Friday night lights. Who knows where what they learn on the field will take them in life?

One of the biggest fears of a parent is to see someone getting hurt on the field. Yes, that is part of the game especially when it comes to a high-impact game like football. With each hit, we watch and hold our breath until the player gets up. That is just how the game goes.

Recently two players at two different schools here in Amarillo went down and the crowds watched as they didn't get up. Both Aaren Woods from Palo Duro High and Darian Howard from Tascosa High fell victim to injuries on the field.

They both sustained spinal injuries and both ended up in the hospital. These injuries both happened within weeks of each other and are a parent's and community's worst fear. The community has been looking for ways to help. That is what we do.

The Caprock High Community has been the first to step in with a way to support both players. A benefit dinner is happening on Monday at Taste of Thai. When they first put this together they were opening it up for a few hours that evening to help out.

That was not enough and the community wanted more. So the hours have now been extended. A full day to help out both players. So when you get hungry on Monday stop by and get some great food from Taste of Thai - 1900 SE 34th. You can dine in or order takeout and either way be helping both injured players.
