Dasher Diary: Customer Rewards Amarillo Driver for Simple Act
When you are a delivery driver in Amarillo, you learn to expect surprises. When they are good surprises, they can leave a smile on your face and a little faith in humanity restored. When they are a bad surprise, well, none of that happens.
I am one of those delivery drivers who tend to follow directions even when they seem silly. I have never understood the customers who ask you to message them when you drop off food.
When Customers Ask for Extra Communication
I mean, I understand they want to know you are there, but I have used the apps myself, and I know that both DoorDash and Uber Eats over-message you to let you know everything that is going on. So, I know that they are sending you a message themselves letting you know I have dropped off your food.
So, if overcommunication is what you want, I will oblige. I am glad though on this one particular order I did just that. I had a pickup from Subway for a sandwich and a couple of cookies.

The customer wanted a text when I delivered. The location was just a couple of miles away, so it didn't take very long. I got to the house. I dropped off the food. I took the photo at drop-off, and I messaged her. I let her know I left her food and told her to have a great weekend.
The Delivery That Changed Everything
I followed directions. I did not hear back from her, but as I was heading back to my starting point, I received a message from DoorDash. The customer added a five-dollar tip on top of the five dollars they already tipped before drop-off.
A Surprise Reward for Following Directions
The importance of following directions in Amarillo. I wholeheartedly believe the customer used this as a test. If you follow the directions, you get extra money. I am always going to follow the direction, so I am good with any test you want to send my way. Oh, and any extra money too.
