If you have lived in Amarillo for any amount of time, you have stopped to have a donut or two. There was a time when there wasn't much variety in where to go for that sweet donut taste.

While a few other places existed around town, options were limited. Donut Stop was where everyone would stop to grab a box to bring to work, to Sunday School, or bring home for the family. The red cherry donuts were always the go-to for most kids.

The Rise of Donut Stop

Everyone who was here at the time remembers when Krispy Kreme tried to break the donut monopoly in town. Hey, can't blame Amarillo for loving the Donut Stop. Yes, we did love the option of Krispy Kreme off I-40, but not enough to keep them in business.

Then, something changed, ushering in a new era for donuts in Amarillo. There is a lot of talk about what changed, but what matters is that now there are a lot more options when it comes to where you can stop for a donut.

Amarillo's Donut Future

We still have several Donut Stop locations, so the kiddos can still get those cherry donuts they love so much. Trust me, every time the daughter and granddaughter are in town, we make that stop at Donut Stop. My daughter is continuing the tradition of cherry donuts, and my granddaughter loves them, like she should.

The great thing about living in 2025 is that there are also at least seven other donut places to try, and they seem to be adding all of the time. Got Donuts? is currently constructing two new locations.
