Dasher Diary: Amarillo Driver Shares Unexpected DoorDash Experience with BK Donation
It's not very often that I see something when I am out, Dashing that surprises me a little bit. I mean, I see strange animals. I drive past car accidents. Things happen that I see. I get that. Recently, something popped up that was unusual. So I wondered when this began.
Restaurants Already Known for Donations
When I pick up from Panda Express in Amarillo, they often ask about donating or rounding up change to help kids. There are several restaurants that will give you the opportunity to donate to a great cause.
The Surprising New Feature in a DoorDash Order
I have never seen an option like that while DoorDashing in their app. I think this is strictly on the restaurant, but this is the first time in my two years of delivering that I saw something like this.
Maybe it is the first time that I had a customer who actually donated through the app, I don't know. I had an order to pick up from Burger King, and it listed the food I had to pick up, and it had two items.

Item number one was a Whopper with bacon and cheese meal. The second item was one dollar to the BK Foundation. It was listed as an item. I knew it was not something I had to pick up but instead a donation.
For all of the people who complain about all of the fees that DoorDash hits you with, I was surprised that it was an option. Then it got me worried. Will this person not tip because they donated to this fund?
I didn't want to think that way, but I have been doing this for several years, and people would surprise you with why they don't tip. I was hoping this was not the case because I also thought if they were nice enough to donate to Burger King's cause, they were nice enough to tip.
Will More Restaurants Join In?
That second thought was the correct one. She did tip, and my faith in humanity was restored. Good for her for donating and also leaving a tip. I just wonder how many more restaurants will be giving you the option to donate to their cause through DoorDash. I will keep an eye out.
